Pelican1 is now berthed in Melbourne, after sailing down with the help of a few hardy volunteers. Thank you to Brad, Damon and Marina.
We are very happy to announce that Two Bays will be happening this January. We will be able to develop our Indigenous engagement program as we have also won a Caring for Our Country grant. Parks Victoria also won their grant covering the Stewardship of both Port Phillip and Western Port Bays which will help us to build a good solid project together.
Two Bays 09 is being launched at Docklands on the 10th January.
Read more about Two Bays 2009 for information and maps on the itinerary and activities planned. |

Great Barrier Reef Swim & Saltwater Projects
In November of 2009 Pelican will support Dr Rob Hutchings, in collaborative project, in his quest to swim the entire length of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. It is a distance of approximately 2300km and the swim will be a platform to take action on climate change.
We are in the early stages of planning but already have the endorsement of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and are planning the nitty gritty of shark cages and the like. The program will be run through Saltwater Projects as we have finally developed the not for profit arm so that we are able to attract donors to support this and other projects.
Please go to the Great Barrier Reef Swim page for more information |

Pelican 1 has finished the 5th Hope Vale project. This year the program was larger and more ambitious, bringing together new partners and people who came along to help create a month long project.
Recently Samia Goudie and Natalie Davey presented the digital stories that the kids had done on the Hope Vale project at the IKC (Indigenous Knowledge Centre) and also at the Hope Vale school (pictured here). All participants who had made a story were presented with a DVD copy of the stories. Digital story telling is being well utilised at the Hope Vale Primary school and it was great to visit and see some of the work that the kids had done since we saw them at camp. We hope to share their stories with you soon.

You can also get more information about the project through the following links. The Hope Vale Community, through the Indigenous Knowledge Centre, has now set up a WIKI to upload stories and information about the Pelican Hope Vale project. hopevale.wikispaces.com/Pelican.
The Digital Story Telling crew also has a site for reflecting the process of making Digital stories, through Samia Goudie's PhD site. samiastories.wordpress.com |
